Law and order

America is a great nation! However i think we can all agree that some of the laws are unnecessary. I live breaking laws as much as the next guy but while trespassing through a backyard on my run I was ambushed by a wild pig. #lessonlearnedAMERICA

Quotes from Comedians, This will help you remember to not suck

Comedian Quotes

I think one of the most important things in life is to do what you love. People will try to change you. People will try to make you fall in love with the world.

I say no. God created you that way and you should just be yourself, as hard as you can. You are awesome not the watered down safe version of yourself. That person sucks.

Don't suck.

It is that important.

Jesus talk will take place tonight in the hot tub at the Rec!

The challenge this week is to love someone you don't normally love and mention God to them! So I gave this to someone at Dunkin donuts after I paid for their drink in the Drive Thru. According to John 4 I am Sowing, but someone else will reap later.

Love Does! Do it! Sorry the pic is upside down. Work at it!

The smartest kid I know. I hope he will let me move in with him when I am homeless one day.

BRANDON
Well if you must know, it’s a group of sea turtles trying to cross the pacific, but there is a zebra in the way, so they can’t pass.

                         ERIC
It looks like more like a jackass.

                         BRANDON
It’s a zebra, not a jackass. You are just doing this to piss me off.

                         ERIC
I’m not saying it to piss you off.

                         BRANDON
Yes you are.

                         ERIC
Look, You don’t have any stripes on the zebra… And it’s brown.

                         BRANDON
Shut up! I know you are just trying to piss me off.

                         ERIC
Am not. As your older brother, I think you should know the difference between Zebras and Jackasses.

                         Brandon
                    (Getting angry)
It’s a group of sea turtles trying to cross the pacific… Shut up!

Don’t say anything.

                         ERIC
Well who are we gonna say did it! This isn’t gonna work!

                         BRANDON
If you say it was me, I’ll kill you in your sleep!

                         ERIC
                    (whispers)
Oh no, she is coming.

(Eric steps in front of mess trying to hide it.)

                         (Mom enters.)

                         MOM
How is the painting going?

                         BRANDON
Look what I made Mom.

                         MOM
                    (Under her breath)
Oh God. Not the sea turtles again.

                         BRANDON
Do you like it mom?

                         MOM

                         ERIC
(He steps away and points at urn.)

                         (Looks back at urn.)

Oh my God! What happened to my Urn!

                         BRANDON
It wasn’t me.
                         ERIC

                         MOM

                         ERIC

Christmas Soon!: Writing 5 Packet at Second City is due on Thursday!

I just finished writing 4 Week 3!

Really excited and nervous about submitting my sketch to be reviewed to see if I make it to writing 5 and 6! If accepted, my team and I will create a sketch review on one of the stages at Second City.

The future is always a mystery. People in general fear what they do not know or understand. As a senior this school, I have been blessed to see how the Lord is already opening opportunities for me.

I wonder if if I will make it. I wonder if the Lord has prepared me for what is to come. Contrary to popular belief, It is called the present because it is a gift. Each moment is what is happening in your life.

      I am a...

  •                      Senior at Olivet Nazarene University
  •                      Preaching Ambassador
  •                      Video Editor
  •                      Resident Assistant
  •                      Second City Writing 4 Student

  •                      Busy!

This thing started because of an idea I had that was loosely taken from a scene in The Dark Knight Rises. You must do it. "Without The Rope". We cannot live in 'what if?' moments. You can make your life amazing just by doing amazing things. Quit thinking about doing things. Do them.

Don't find your satisfaction in meaningless things, but find satisfaction in doing meaningful things.

Anyways I will post the sketch here tomorrow by NOON!

Pray for me.

I am not dead!

I have not done any performance in a few weeks, but rest assure that I am not dead. I have been working on finishing up school for the summer semester and working with Southside Church of the Nazarene as there Youth Intern.

http://www.trysouthside.com/

It has been a blast. The kids there are amazing. I recently just got back from church camp in Marion, IN at Shiloh Park. It was great to see God work in the lives of everyone that was there.

Romans 12:2

"Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person            by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and            pleasing and perfect."

Christ frees you up to the be the person he created you to be. So that you can fight and hold nothing back.  You can be transformed daily if you just accept Christ's love for you.

I am free to be ridiculous. You are free to be ridiculous.

Proverbs 15:13

"A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit."

Be happy go and laugh.

I will do what I can to have some sort of video posted by next Friday.

Frankly. Eric, you are. and thats all there is to it."

And that is pretty much what I said.

Something to shoot for!

This is how we  do it in Muncie, IN

Second City Writing2 #day2 Prep

I needed to write a 5 page sketch about a relationship.

My notebook is becoming quite a useful tool as any idea that pops into my head throughout the day ends up in there. It makes it very easy to find good material.

Aside from that, in my freewriting time I go HAM and find premises for days. Come at me bro.

Just kidding, thats the Rosetta Douche coming out of me there. I am sorry for any inconvenience.

I wrote a sketch called "The Caver". Anytime you are cracking up while writing something, that is a good sign. If it goes well in class tomorrow. I might post it.

#JimGaffiganProblems #Part2

So this was truly a blessing.

UP in Chicago had a Q and A with Jim Gaffigan on Friday.

I was lucky to here some great questions and responses to tough questions. Especially  for a young comic starting out.

I recorded the audio and some video from the event. After disecting the product I will be sure to mention the best advice.

#JimGaffiganProblems

After going to Morty's It was recommended to me that I learn how to disect joke structures.

I found myself to begin as a storytelling comic. 6 minutes is not enough time to delve into several stories so writing jokes is the best alternative to combat this short time.

Jim Gaffigan's Mr. Universe is and excellent example of structure.

1)    Setup

2) Punchline

3)  Tag

He sets up the joke. Then he tells the punchline.

The tag is when additional words are used after the initial punchline is stated. The tag makes and reenforces the punch.

Great wisdom if you can incorporate the structure into your own material and originality.

First Stand UP

The first stand up went pretty good for the first time.

Now available on Youtube.com/withouttherope.

Which is sort of like saying that I did it and am still alive. I definitely learned some important things. There is not enough time in a 6 minute set to tell 3 quality stories and have a good opening.

In you opening you want to sound spontaneous and befriend your audience... if you want them to like you, that is.

Your 1st and last jokes need to be your most powerful.

The first one was really fun and I had a great time. I am looking forward to getting out there again. Morty's has some great comics and they all were super cool and helpful for someone who was trying to perform for the first time.

I doubt I could have had a warmer welcome to the game.

My notebook!

First Stand Up Attempt

Currently, I am sitting in the Ball State University Student Center. Last night I received an email that I will be performing in an open mic at Morty's Comedy Joint in Indianapolis.

http://mortyscomedy.com/?gclid=CJW24eHRhLcCFYZaMgodVAQAKA

8PM on Wednesday May 8th.

I do not have anything prepared yet. I have compounded some material in a workbook in case I got a call back.

Obviously, this being my first one, I am very nervous. But the worst case scenario is that after tomorrow I will be a stand up comedian. Granted, I could be the most terrible one ever.

I am excited and nervous. I will post the attempt haha to youtube afterward to my Youtube Channel-Withouttherope.

Introduction

The goal of this is to do the things that everyone has been afraid to do. Some things will be comedic in nature and others will be inspirational.

I hope that what we do in the days to come can help others accomplish their goals as well. Get rid of your inhibitions about doing something. Win or lose, you will never learn without trying.

Romans: 12:2 NLT

"Don't copy the behavior of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is."
